Classic American chicken salad (shredded chicken salad)

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 pieces of chicken breast (approx. 600g)
  • 500 ml chicken broth, unseasoned
  • 1 garlic clove(s) (optional)
  • 200 g mayonnaise or salad cream, or more
  • 2 stalk(s) celery, finely sliced
  • salt and pepper

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 3 hours; Total time approx. 3 hours 20 minutes

This recipe is designed for a 3.5 L CrockPot (CP). First, lightly season the chicken breasts on all sides and place them side by side in the CP. Add the garlic clove, if desired, and pour over the chicken broth. The chicken breast should be completely covered with liquid. Cover. Braising time is approximately 3 hours on high, or 4 hours on medium. Remove the chicken breast and shred it finely with two forks, similar to pulled pork. Allow to cool completely and toss with the mayonnaise and celery. Season with salt and pepper. Serving tip: Serve on a lettuce leaf or serve classically with soft toasted sandwiches.
