Clean Eating: Cook Fresh And Enjoy Naturally

With clean eating, natural foods are on the menu, ready meals are taboo. We reveal what else is part of the nutrition trend and how you can implement it when cooking.

Clean eating is a trend that, as is so often the case, originated in the USA. With this form of nutrition and lifestyle, naturalness is the top priority. What we eat should be as natural as possible. Heavily processed foods like instant soup, canned food, and fast food leave clean eaters in the dust. Instead, vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, and whole grains go into the shopping basket and are combined into meals that contain neither preservatives nor flavor enhancers. Unlike classic diet recipes, there are no restrictions when cooking: anything and any combination is allowed, as long as it is natural. Above all, seasonal and regional products meet this requirement. Berries and Swiss chard in summer, cabbage in winter, and asparagus in spring would be examples of a clean eating plan.

What else goes into clean eating?

Clean eating isn’t just about the food itself, it’s also about living a healthy life overall for better fitness and well-being. In this way, the natural feeling of hunger and satiety is taken into account when eating. As soon as the stomach growls, the food is fed in rather small portions, up to six times a day. Complex carbohydrates should be combined with protein as much as possible. An example recipe is our Buddha Bowl, in which lots of fresh vegetables, quinoa, nuts and smoked tofu are put together to create a delicious bowl. Another basic principle when cooking these and other clean eating meals is to cut back on salt, sugar, and saturated fats. When baking without sugar, artificial sweeteners such as aspartame are not used, but natural alternatives such as honey, concentrated apple juice, or dried fruit. Always having breakfast, drinking up to three liters of water a day, and avoiding alcohol are other clean eating basics.

What does clean eating bring?

The food trend is not that different from previous concepts for a balanced, conscious diet. So you can easily follow the basic rules. Be skeptical about the promises of salvation that can be found on many a clean eating blog. Because it has not been proven in any way whether a consistent implementation of all rules really protects against cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, skin blemishes, or even cancer.
