Clean aluminum rims with home remedies
Aluminum rims are not only a nice detail, but they also enhance a vehicle. Dirty aluminum rims damage the optics. Water alone is not enough to restore the rims to their former glory. But there are a few tips that will make the aluminum sparkling clean again.
- Before you start the fine work, the coarse dirt must be removed. To do this, use plenty of water and a soft sponge. If you have a high-pressure cleaner, you can hose down the rims with it.
- Once the coarsest dirt has been removed, dry the rims well with a soft cloth or chamois leather. Then oven spray is used – as is well known, this also dissolves stubborn dirt. Spray the rim well and let the spray work for 15 to 30 minutes. Then spray the rim with a water hose or grab a bucket and a soft sponge again.
- The narrow spaces between the spokes are difficult to reach with a sponge. An old toothbrush will help here.
- Aluminum rims cannot rust, but they can corrode. To eliminate this corrosion damage, use an old household remedy: cola and aluminum foil. Put some cola on the aluminum foil and rub it into the stain. Then clean the rim with water if the stain has disappeared.
- What cleans the teeth also cleans the rim. Put a little toothpaste on an old toothbrush and use it to clean the spaces between the spokes.
- If you are not a fan of home remedies, the trade naturally also offers special rim cleaners.
