- 500 g bacon (belly bacon) from pork
- 2 apples (preferably Boskoop)
- 2 onions
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp marjoram
- ½ tsp pepper

Grandma’s way with apple and marjoram, makes itself
I always use pre-washed and minced bacon. Add the fat in flakes to the pot. Cut a large cross into the onion and add it. Quarter, peel, and core the apples. Add them to the pot with the spices. Melt everything over low heat until completely translucent. The cracklings form when the onion and apple melt with the spices. Once everything is liquid, simmer briefly and then transfer to a dish. We have a special pot of lard for this purpose. It’s important not to move the dish until everything is completely hardened. This takes about two days.
