Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g onion(s)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 250 ml cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 g cheese (Gouda), medium-aged
  • 4 slice(s) toast bread, slices
  • Thyme (leaves)
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Thinly slice the onions, then cut them into rings. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter, sauté the onions until translucent, and season with salt, pepper, and a few thyme leaves. Arrange the onion rings in 4 ovenproof dishes. Whisk the cream with the eggs and season with salt. Grate the cheese, cut the crusts off 4 slices of toast, and cut the bread into small cubes. Add the cheese to the cream and spread everything over the onions. Place 2 tablespoons of butter in small pieces on the bread cubes and place the dishes on the oven rack. Bake at 180°C (fan oven, do not preheat) for about 20-30 minutes.
