Double creamy

The name already suggests that there is something double here. Namely the fat content. In comparison to cream with about 25-30%, Crème Double has a full 40-55% fat and is therefore twice as rich. In addition, it is much firmer and can therefore be opened faster.

Buy Cream Double

You won’t necessarily find this specialty from France and Switzerland in smaller supermarket branches. In large chains, however, you can often find it on the shelves next to cream and crème fraîche.

The small supermarket around the corner doesn’t have a crème double? Then the following alternatives could help you:

Cream

Whipped cream, sweet cream, and sweet cream are the same product and make good alternatives, even if the fat content is lower. However, cream flocculates when heated and is, therefore, more suitable for ice cream recipes than for soups, for example. You can also easily use it as a substitute for filling cakes. Whipping them with whipped cream will give you a good binding.

Creme fraiche Cheese

With 30% fat, crème fraîche has a spoonful consistency similar to crème double. However, it is not quite as fatty but remains just as stable when cooked. The taste is a bit sour.

Tip: The higher the fat content of a dairy product, the more stable it is to cook. That means it doesn’t flake out in the heat. Stirring in some starch can prevent or delay the problem.

Sour cream

Sour cream has about 25-30% fat and is a good substitute when mixed with sweet cream. But be careful, because it also flocculates if the heat is too high.

Tip: By the way, sour cream also tastes great hearty! Try cole slaw with sour cream and pointed cabbage.

Mascarpone

Mascarpone double cream mixed in equal parts with whipped cream is a very good crème double substitute.

Double-cream cream cheese

Cream cheese has a similar firm texture and is very creamy with cream. Tastes a little sourer than Crème Double. You can get the Crème Double Alternative in every supermarket in the refrigerated section. When buying, pay attention to the specified fat content: the higher, the better. It should definitely be cream, double cream is better.

Tip: Do you still have cream cheese left? Then conjure up a quick wild garlic dip with cream cheese. Delicious!

No crème double substitute

Replace crème double with fewer calories. Unfortunately, that does not work! Because all whey products that are too liquid, have too little fat content, or are too acidic are not suitable as a crème double alternative. It is, therefore, better not to use sour cream, quark, coffee cream, or milk.
