Cutting Iceberg Lettuce – That’s How Easy It Is

How to cut iceberg lettuce

You can of course prepare the iceberg lettuce leaf by leaf. To do this, gradually pluck off as many leaves as you need and then cut or pluck them into smaller pieces. Although this variant is the most common, it sometimes takes a long time and is relatively impractical.

  • It is much easier, for example, to first cut the iceberg lettuce in half and then cut these halves in half again. This will expose the stalk and you can easily remove it. If you want, you can halve the lettuce just once and put the other half in the fridge. This is especially useful if you don’t need the whole salad. Make sure to wrap the lettuce tightly in cling film, though, to keep it nice and fresh and crunchy.
  • If you know from the start that you need the whole head of lettuce, you can use a very simple trick to remove the stalk from the lettuce. To do this, you hold the head of lettuce in your hands so that the stalk is pointing downwards onto the worktop or board.
  • Now beat the iceberg lettuce hard on the work surface. This loosens the stalk and you can easily pull it out of the head of lettuce.
  • When it comes to actually cutting the iceberg lettuce, we don’t give you any specifications, as there is no right or wrong here. You can cut the iceberg lettuce into strips and halve them again or generally cut them into bite-sized pieces. This makes it easier to pick up on the fork than pieces that are too big.
