Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

Yeast dough, prepared in hot oil

Put the flour in a bowl, make a well in the center, and crumble in the yeast. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar and pour in a little lukewarm milk, then stir to form the pre-dough. Dust the edges with flour, cover, and let rise for about 15 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl and knead well with the pre-dough. Cover the dough again and let rise for about 30 minutes, then knead well again. Form the dough into a thick roll and cut it into 15 equal-thick slices. Roll the dough discs evenly with a rolling pin and press a hole in the center to create rings. Cover the rings on a floured surface with a kitchen towel and let rise for 15 minutes. Heat the oil in a saucepan or deep fryer to about 170 degrees Celsius. If you prefer, you can also heat the oil in a large pan as if frying. Carefully place the dough rings in the hot oil and fry in batches until golden brown on both sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. While still warm, coat the donuts in sugar or cinnamon sugar. Or, once cooled, dust with powdered sugar. You can also cover them with chocolate glaze.
