Dutch macaroni casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g pasta (spaghetti)
  • 2 large onions
  • 500 g cheese (Gouda), grated
  • oil
  • e.g. breadcrumbs
  • some margarine, cut into flakes

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Cook the spaghetti (called macaroni in Holland) in boiling salted water until al dente. Peel the onions, slice them into thin rings, and sauté them in a pan until translucent. Grease a baking dish with oil and then layer the onion rings, grated Gouda cheese, and pasta. Finish with a layer of Gouda cheese, then sprinkle with breadcrumbs as desired. Sprinkle a few flakes of margarine over the breadcrumbs. Place the dish in a preheated oven at 220°C for about 30 to 45 minutes. The casserole is ready when the breadcrumb crust is golden brown. Serve hot. Serve with Maggi for seasoning at the table.
