From October we will find them again on the vegetable shelves. One or the other has probably often wondered what you can do with the beet. Because the healthy swede has been somewhat forgotten. In the meantime, it appears more often on our plates again. Most of you probably already know that you can make an excellent stew out of the swede. But the swede also tastes great raw and is a bit similar to kohlrabi. It is important to remove the peel generously, as this is not necessarily a pleasure. She is very taut and tough.

Swedes can also be eaten raw as a snack or in a delicious raw vegetable salad. Give it a try.

Taste

Rutabaga has a pleasant taste, with the yellow-fleshed rutabaga having an even more intense taste than the white-fleshed ones. The latter is more likely to be grown for animal feed. In the aftermath, however, both variants taste a bit bitter. Many people claim that rutabagas taste like a cross between sweet potato and turnip greens. There’s worse, right?

Better small than big

Yes, you read that right: turnips can easily weigh up to 1.5 kg. However, you should still grab a smaller version in the supermarket. On the one hand, this is because the larger turnips tend to taste woody. On the other hand, a smaller one can usually be used directly, so you don’t have any leftovers.
