Eaten Too Spicy: How to Neutralize Chili

These foods will help if you’ve eaten too spicy.

If you want to neutralize the sharpness on your tongue, then it is best to reach for very specific foods. Water only helps for a short time, after a few seconds the burning comes back. Better suited are: reach for fatty or sugary foods.

  • Milk is often recommended as it contains both fat and sugar. It helps, but after a short time the burning comes back – yogurt has a similar effect.
  • White bread can also help, but only for a short time. To get rid of the sharpness of white bread, such as toast, you need to chew for a long time.
  • According to studies, the best way to eliminate the heat is with mascarpone. Mascarpone is very fatty, sweet, and cool. Even in small portions, mascarpone can help to get rid of the heat. When paired with white bread, it’s the perfect “neutralizer” for spiciness.
  • If you don’t have mascarpone at home, cream cheese will also help.
  • Be sure to consume these ingredients slowly over several minutes and not overeat, lest they harm your health or cause digestive problems.

This is how sharpness is created

Sharpness is not a taste, but a pain sensation. The molecule capsaicin plays the most important role and acts on certain receptors on the tongue. The result of this reaction is the feeling of heat and pungency.
