Extend shelf life: How to freeze kale

Be sure to use fresh kale.

  • A reliable sign of freshness is juicy green and crisp leaves. You can keep the vegetables in the refrigerator for four days. Don’t prepare the kale if you freeze it.
  • To do this, you need to remove the leaves from the stem and wash them carefully.
  • The cabbage is then briefly blanched. Soak the leaves in boiling salted water for about five minutes. After that, take the leaves out of the water and immediately chill them in ice water.
  • Now the kale must be drained thoroughly in a colander. Before freezing, it must be dried off. The easiest way to do this is with paper towels.
  • Only now cut the kale leaves into the desired size.
  • Divide the vegetables into freezer bags or other freezer containers in portion sizes of your choice. Then seal the container, write the date on it, and put it in the freezer.

Thaw frozen kale – it’s that easy

If you want to use frozen kale, defrosting is very easy.

  • Kale will keep in the freezer for about a year. To defrost, simply take a portion and place it in a saucepan.
  • Add a little water and warm the vegetables for about ten minutes.
  • Then you can prepare the kale.
