How to freeze pointed cabbage
In principle, you can also freeze raw pointed cabbage. However, to ensure that as many vitamins as possible are preserved and the cabbage does not get a mushy consistency after defrosting, you should blanch it beforehand.
- First remove the outer leaves, quarter the cabbage, and cut off the stalk.
- Cut the cabbage into strips or cubes and place them in a saucepan of boiling salted water.
- The pointed cabbage should now simmer for about two minutes over medium heat.
- Then drain the cabbage and rinse it with cold water.
- Now the cabbage has to dry completely. You can put it on kitchen paper, for example.
- The dry cabbage can then be frozen. To do this, divide it into several portions and fill them into freezer-safe boxes or freezer bags.
- Squeeze as much air as possible out of the freezer bag to avoid freezer burn.
How long does frozen cabbage last?
If you have followed the above steps, the pointed cabbage will keep in the freezer for some time.
- It’s best to write the date on the freezer bag when freezing, so you don’t forget how long the cabbage has been stored.
- You should not keep the pointed cabbage for longer than eight months.
