French toast – sandwich for the big hunger for breakfast
Halve the ham and cheese so they fit on the toast without overlapping. Whisk together the egg, flour, salt, pepper, herbs, milk, paprika/curry powder, and onions (you can also omit the onions). Place the slices of toast in the mixture to absorb the oil. Heat a pan and add the oil. Slowly fry the two slices of toast on one side until golden brown. Turn one slice of toast over and alternate between the ham and cheese. Place the second slice of toast on top, cooked side down, and press down gently so the melted cheese bonds the toast to the ham. Once the bottom side of the toast is cooked and the cheese has melted, turn the whole thing over and fry in the pan, pressing down, until the other side is cooked and the cheese is perfectly melted. Remove from the pan, pat off any fat with kitchen paper, and then serve with fresh herbs and a tomato. Either cut into wedges or slice them and place them on the toast. Variations are possible, e.g. mozzarella as cheese or bacon instead of ham.
