Fried bread with egg

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 5 slices of brown bread (e.g. rye bread, barley bread or crusty bread)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 onion(s), if desired
  • salt and pepper
  • n. B. Oil for the pan
  • Herbs of your choice
  • Spice(s) of your choice

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Fried bread à la grandma

Cut the 5 slices of bread into equal-sized squares (you don’t need to remove the crusts). Heat the oil in a pan and fry the bread pieces until golden brown on both sides. If you’re adding onions, fry them directly with the bread pieces. Whisk the two eggs and mix with salt, pepper, paprika, and any other desired seasonings. Pour this over the bread pieces (and onions) in the pan and fry until tender. Serve with a nice tomato salad or small gherkins as a side dish.
