Ripen avocados faster
For the first life hack, you need a few sheets of kitchen paper, a ripe banana, and of course the avocado. It is important that you use paper towels without a coating.
- First place the avocado and the banana on the paper towels.
- Then roll the two fruits up well in kitchen paper.
- The trick is based on the fact that the banana produces ethylene. Ethylene is a ripening gas that significantly accelerates the ripening process.
- Since you wrapped the banana in the paper along with the avocado, the ethylene cannot escape and the avocado ripens much faster.
The oven as a ripening aid
For the second life hack, all you need is aluminum foil and an oven.
- First, preheat the oven.
- While the oven is preheating, wrap the avocado in aluminum foil.
- Then set the oven to 140 degrees and place the wrapped avocado on the oven rack.
- It is best to set the kitchen timer because the fruit must not remain in the oven for longer than 10 to a maximum of 20 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, explore the degree of ripeness by gently pressing on the avocado. If the avocado is still too hard, increase the time in the oven by a maximum of 10 minutes.
- The difference between the two methods is, among other things, that the avocado cannot develop such a good aroma in the oven. You should therefore only use the second method in an emergency and otherwise rely on the ripening gas.
