Ginger Also Helps With PMS

Ginger warms from the inside, relaxes, and reduces pain. A new study has now proven: the hot tuber also relieves symptoms caused by PMS (premenstrual syndrome). Praxisvita reveals how you can use the healing power yourself.

Numerous studies prove the medicinal effect of ginger. Ginger tea, ginger water, and ginger oils in particular can be used to promote health. They help with headaches, muscle aches, sore throats, or stomach aches. The ingredients of the medicinal plant also stop nausea and vomiting. Ginger contains arousing agents that inhibit the processes in the body that cause inflammation and pain. With this in mind, scientists at the University of Tehran designed a study to investigate the effectiveness of ginger on premenstrual syndrome.

Ginger brought significant relief from PMS symptoms

The result: ginger was effective in women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The study included 70 women (18-35 years) with at least five typical PMS symptoms over three cycles. They each received 2 x 250 mg ginger (capsules) or placebo daily seven days before and three days after menstruation. 19 different PMS symptoms were recorded in the three categories mood (e.g. irritability, anxiety, moodiness), physical symptoms (e.g. headache, breast tenderness, abdominal pain, back pain, weight gain), and overall condition (e.g. tiredness, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, altered appetite). When looking at the physical and psychological symptoms, a significant improvement in symptoms was registered with ginger. This applied to both mood and physical characteristics. The administration of ginger had a particularly clear effect on the overall condition.

Ginger – the healthy alternative

Women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome often also have to deal with nausea and headaches. According to these findings, ginger preparations could represent an effective and well-tolerated alternative to painkillers for PMS, as they also gently combat side effects such as nausea and headaches.
