Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 220 g flour
- 75 g butter
- 2 tbsp syrup (sugar cane syrup), light
- 1 tbsp syrup (sugar cane syrup), dark
- 75 g sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp gingerbread spice
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 2 tsp ginger powder
- 1 orange(s), grated peel
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp orange juice
- Almonds or pistachios
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
In a large saucepan, combine the syrup, sugar, and water; heat. Add the cinnamon, gingerbread spice, nutmeg, ginger, and orange zest. Bring everything to a boil while stirring. Remove the pan from the heat. Add the butter, baking soda, and orange juice, then stir in enough sifted flour to form a firm dough. Let the dough cool on a work surface, then roll out to about 3 mm thick. Cut out with cookie cutters or cut into diamonds or rectangles. Decorate with pistachios or almonds. Bake on a baking sheet lined with baking paper at 180 degrees Celsius for about 12 minutes.
