Grandma's fried green beans with onions and bacon

Spread the love

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 1 gr. can/n green beans fine young, 455 g drained weight
  • 3 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 20 g bacon, fattier
  • 2 tsp, leveled salt
  • 1 pinch of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp, heaped thyme, shredded
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

old Mecklenburg recipe

Finely dice the onions and bacon. Fry the bacon in the pan and fry lightly. Remove the bacon from the pan and set aside. Discard any excess fat. Add the onions to the pan and fry in the bacon fat until lightly browned. Remove the onions from the pan and add them to the reserved bacon. Drain the liquid from the beans and add the beans to the pan with a little oil. Fry the beans over high heat for about 5 minutes, turning frequently. Then reduce the heat to medium and fry the beans for another 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally (not too often, or they won’t brown, but will just dry out). Once the beans are evenly browned, add the onions and bacon. Over medium heat, stirring frequently, season generously with salt and (very important!!) add the thyme. A truly delicious side dish for many dishes. I wouldn’t have believed that you could conjure up something so delicious from green beans.
