Gratinated kohlrabi

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 200 g whipped cream
  • 4 m.-large kohlrabi
  • salt and pepper
  • 375 ml water
  • 200 g smoked pork or cooked ham, thinly sliced
  • 1 bunch of basil
  • 100 g cheese (Gouda)
  • 3 tbsp sauce thickener, light

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Bring the cream and 375 ml water to a boil. Peel and wash the kohlrabi, halve it, and cut it into wedges. Season the cream mixture with salt. Cover the kohlrabi and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Cut the ham into strips. Wash and pick the basil. Set some aside for garnish. Grate the cheese. Thicken the cream mixture with a sauce thickener. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the basil and ham. Transfer everything to a baking dish and sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake in a preheated oven (top/bottom heat: 225 °C, fan: 200 °C, gas mark 4) for 15 minutes. Garnish with the remaining basil. Baguette is delicious with this dish.
