Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 300g French fries
  • some oil for frying
  • 400 g gyros meat
  • 3 slice(s) Gouda, young
  • 2 handfuls of lettuce
  • 1 cup of tzatziki

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

First, preheat the oven to 180°C (fan/convection oven) and the deep fryer. If you prefer less greasy food, you can also use an air fryer. Prepare the fries according to the package instructions. Sear the gyro meat in a pan until lightly browned, but not all the way through. The pan should be large enough to allow the meat to cook without overlapping. Then remove the pan from the heat and let the meat rest for a while. Drain the cooked fries briefly and place them in a baking dish. Spread the meat over the fries. If you don’t like the fries getting a little softer, don’t add the liquid from the pan to the baking dish. Spread the cheese over the meat and place the baking dish in the oven for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is well melted. Meanwhile, wash the lettuce and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Arrange the meat and fries on plates, top with the lettuce, and add tzatziki, if desired.
