with nasturtium leaves instead of lettuce

Season the ground beef generously with salt and pepper and form 4 flat burger patties. Wash the nasturtium leaves. Wash the tomato and slice it. Peel the onion and slice it into rings. Drain the gherkins and slice it into slices. Halve the burger buns and briefly toast the cut sides in a pan. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and sear the burger patties on each side, then slowly cook over low heat until just cooked through. Just before the burger patties are done, place a slice of Emmental cheese on each one and let it melt slightly. Brush the bottom halves of the burger buns with a tablespoon of BBQ sauce. Place 4 nasturtium leaves on top, then arrange the burger patties with the cheese. Place a tomato slice, cucumber slices, and onion rings on top. Brush the cut sides of the top with a tablespoon of BBQ sauce, place on top, and serve. Nasturtium leaves add a wonderfully peppery flavor to the burger. If you don’t have or don’t like nasturtiums, use regular lettuce or iceberg lettuce.
