Ingredients for 10 servings:
- 5 bratwursts (horse sausages)
- 5 Bockwurst (horse sausages)
- 1 jar of pickled gherkins with broth
- 2 large onions
- 4 bell peppers, different colors
- 1 can of tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tube(s) Tomato paste
- some salt
- some pepper
- some paprika powder, hot
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 lemons
- 2 tbsp sugar
- toast bread
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes
Dice the sausage, onions, bell peppers, and gherkins. Don’t discard the pickle liquid. Sauté the onion, add the sausage, and saute. Then add the bell peppers, tomato pieces, and cucumber and heat through. Add all the spices and tomato paste, then pour in the pickle liquid. Add the water until the sausage and other ingredients are covered. Cook the solyanka until the peppers are almost soft. Serve with a teaspoon of sour cream, a slice of lemon, and toasted bread. Tip: If you like it spicy, don’t skimp on the pepper and paprika, or you can also add some Texicana salsa to the solyanka.
