It contains pectins, and organic acids, and is rich in dietary fiber. And thanks to the content of natural sugars, plum is also a natural antidepressant – that is, plum is beneficial not only for the body but also for the human psyche.

Plum: benefits for the liver, kidneys, and blood

Plum pulp and juice protect the kidneys and liver from toxins and are also responsible for the prevention of liver disease. Plums also help with anemia.

In winter, instead of fresh plums, you can eat prunes and drink prune-based infusions for the same purpose.

Plum – thanks to its boron content – strengthens bones and protects against osteoporosis, as proven by scientists.

It is especially useful to eat plums in the postmenopausal period.

Plum: benefits for blood vessels

Plum is responsible for preventing atherosclerosis and vasoconstriction. And ultimately protects against heart failure, heart attack, and strokes.

Plums contain unique substances called coumarins, which prevent blood clots from forming. Adding plums to the diet also lowers bad cholesterol and normalizes blood pressure.

The benefits of plums for weight loss

The beneficial properties of plums are primarily associated with cleansing the body and activating the gastrointestinal tract.

The calorie content of plums (per hundred grams) is only 42 kilocalories. At the same time, this weight of product accounts for 0.8 grams of protein and 0.3 grams of fat. It is a very satisfying product due to its high fiber content, which protects against impulsive hunger. That’s why plums are often advised to eat when you want to lose weight – you just need to remember an important nuance.

The fact is that one hundred grams of plums contain 9.6 grams of carbohydrates. Therefore, plums are contraindicated for diabetes, and also in case of a weak stomach. Therefore, before including plums in your diet menu, it is better to consult a doctor.

Why are plums harmful?

There are few contraindications to plums. Eating plums is not recommended for people who have:

  • a weak stomach;
  • increased stomach acidity;
  • diagnosed with diabetes mellitus;
  • gout or rheumatism.

How many plums can you eat per day?

Plums contain a lot of vitamins and have a wide range of beneficial properties. However, in order to saturate your body with nutrients with the help of plums, you should not stuff yourself with plums. In fact, the daily intake of plums is quite modest:

  • for a healthy person – no more than 5-6 pieces;
  • optimally – 3-4 plums;
  • for stomach problems – no more than one or two plums a day.
