Drain pasta: You should know this trick
Of course, you can simply tip your pasta into a colander to drain off the water. Unfortunately, not all noodles always fit into the sieve. Twitter user Doug Hagler shared a trick that will make you much more adept at draining pasta:
- Once the noodles are cooked, take a colander that is at least the diameter of the pot and place it upside down on top of the pot with the noodles.
- Press the strainer firmly onto the pot so that no noodles slip past the strainer.
- Now pour the noodles through the sieve. The pasta stays in the pot and is kept warm. You can also process them directly in the pot.
After draining: tips for a good pasta
Even after draining, there are still a few things to consider for good pasta:
- A little olive oil or a knob of butter on the hot pasta will prevent them from sticking together. A disadvantage, however, is that the pasta does not absorb the sauce as well if it is greasy.
- Serve the pasta as soon as possible after draining. Let them sit too long and cool and become mushy.
- Do not shock the noodles with cold water. This will wash the starch off the pasta and the sauce won’t stick.
- Mix the sauce and noodles in a large bowl just before serving: both will stay hot and the noodles can bind with the sauce.
