  • There has been a myth surrounding spinach for as long as anyone can remember: it is said to contain an extremely large amount of iron. And while the iron content is there, it’s not as high as previously thought.
  • In addition to iron, spinach contains many vitamins such as vitamins B, C, E, and K. It also contains minerals such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
  • Another ingredient in spinach is carotenoids, which help fight wrinkles. Spinach acts as a natural anti-aging agent. Spinach is also very low in calories.
  • However, if you suffer from gout, you should not eat spinach as often. It contains large amounts of purine.
  • Babies and people with a tendency to have kidney stone formation should therefore also avoid spinach.
  • Also, keep in mind that spinach stores nitrates from fertilizers. However, you can lower the nitrate content of spinach by removing the stalks and veins of the individual leaves. Although some of the nitrates are washed out during blanching, other valuable ingredients are also lost here.
  • You can eat spinach not only cooked but also raw. However, it is important that you eat younger leaves, as they contain less oxalic acid, which prevents iron absorption.
