Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 1 cup(s) sugar
  • 1 cup(s) milk
  • ½ cup(s) butter
  • 2 cup(s) walnuts, grated
  • ½ cup(s) flour
  • Clove(s), ground, cinnamon
  • ½ cup(s) rusks, grated
  • ½ cup(s) milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp brandy
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Cream the butter until fluffy, then add the sugar and eggs. Mix the ground nuts with the cinnamon and cloves. Dissolve the baking soda in the brandy. Stir in the milk, nuts, brandy, rusks, flour, and baking powder. Stir the mixture thoroughly and pour into a buttered and floured baking dish. Bake the cake in the oven, first at high heat, then at low heat, for one hour. Prepare the syrup by boiling the water, sugar, and lemon juice, then pouring it over the cake.
