Keeping Bananas Fresh – Tips and Tricks

With cling film and These to the endurance banana

With the following instructions, you can store your bananas twice as long without turning them brown. The banana stem gives off ethylene gas and causes the bananas to turn brown quickly. If you tape this off, the ripening process will be much slower.

  • Roll a piece of cling film into a sausage and pull it through the stalk between the bananas. The aim is that the bananas no longer touch each other at the stalk.
  • Then you can wrap the trunk yourself with plastic foil and then fix it with Tesa film.
  • It is best to hang up the bananas by the stalk.

A few more tips

These tips can also improve the lifespan of your banana.

  • Storing bananas in the refrigerator can extend their lifespan. They then mature less. Don’t be surprised if the skin is already very dark, the inside is usually still fresh!
  • Never store your bananas with apples or other fruit, as this will cause them to brown much faster.
