The Doctor Told us Which Bananas are the Healthiest

According to the nutritionist, both green and overripe bananas have incredible benefits. Dietitian Olga Korablyova debunked a popular myth about bananas and told us which bananas are more valuable for the body.

“Unripe bananas are low in calories – only 56 kilocalories per 100 grams. Due to their low glycemic index of about 40, green bananas can be eaten by those who are losing weight and patients diagnosed with diabetes. This berry is low in sugar and high in starch (about 12.5 grams per 100 grams), so it reduces appetite and takes a long time to digest,” says Olga Korablyova.

“But overripe bananas have 90 to 100 kilocalories per 100 grams. They are high in catechins, which are powerful antioxidants that protect cells from damage. “The glycemic index of such bananas is about 70, so if you are overweight, it is better to exclude the berry. Unlike green ones, they are digested easily: during long physical work or training, they will be a source of quick energy,” says the doctor.

According to her, one or two bananas a day are good for the body in any case. One banana contains about 10% of the daily potassium requirement and almost 30% of the daily requirement for folic acid, which is necessary for the normal functioning of the heart and nervous system.
