Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

a Lithuanian party snack

Divide the bread slices into three pieces. Cut each of these pieces into pieces. The size can range from strips about 1 cm wide to halves. The larger the pieces, the less work the further preparation requires. Pour the vegetable oil into a heated pan, ensuring the bottom is completely covered. Fry the bread pieces in several batches until golden brown. Once the oil is absorbed, refill with more. Drain on kitchen paper. Rub the still-hot bread slices on all sides with a peeled garlic clove and sprinkle generously with salt. Let the snack cool (but it can also be eaten warm) and serve like chips. Variation: Depending on your taste, after preparing the bread pieces as above, you can place them in a baking dish and mix them with a mixture of mayonnaise and cheese (or just cheese). It is recommended to cut the three-piece slices into strips about 1.5 cm wide so that everything is well coated with the mixture. Then bake the mixture in a hot oven until the cheese has melted. This version must be eaten warm.
