Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 250 ml buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 75 g butter, melted
  • 125 ml sour cream
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 650 g flour
  • Flour for the work surface
  • Fat for frying
  • possibly sugar or icing sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 3 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours 40 minutes

Mix all ingredients together until the dough firms up. Place in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours or in the freezer for half an hour. Roll out the dough with a little flour, cut into strips, and fry in hot oil. Then, if desired, you can roll them in sugar or dust them with powdered sugar. The Krebel are best eaten warm. However, you can also freeze them and thaw them later in the oven or microwave.
