Leberkäse Casserole

The perfect leberkäse casserole recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Glass Sauerkraut
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 Caraway seed
  • 300 ml Apple juice
  • 4 Discs Leberkäse – 250 grams
  • 2 Pretzel sticks
  • 300 ml Milk
  • 3 tablespoon Roasted onions
  • 1 Egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 100 g Grated cheese
  1. Peel the onion into small cubes and sauté lightly in a pan with hot oil. .
  2. Add the sauerkraut, let it brown a little, add the bay leaf, caraway seeds, deglaze with the apple juice and let simmer for about 10 minutes
  3. Cut the pretzel sticks into slices and roast in the oven at 200c for 5 minutes.
  4. Now place the meat loaf in a baking dish, spread the sauerkraut and pretzel stick slices on top.
  5. Mix the milk with the egg, 2 tablespoons of fried onions, salt and pepper and pour over the casserole.
  6. Finally, sprinkle the cheese with the rest of the spring onions over the casserole and put it in the oven at 175 ° C. for 30 minutes.
  7. Take the casserole out of the oven, let it rest a little and then arrange on a plate.
