Let the Pineapple Ripen: the Best Tips And Tricks

Let the pineapple ripen – unfortunately, that doesn’t work

After picking, a pineapple can become softer and juicier, but no longer riper and therefore sweeter.

  • That’s because the sweetness of the fruit comes from the starch in the stalk of the pineapple plant.
  • After picking, the supply is interrupted, and with it the replenishment of starch.
  • What you can still do to make a sour and woody pineapple tasty is explained in the next paragraph.

This will make the pineapple soft and juicy

You should not eat an unripe pineapple because the ingredients in a young fruit can sometimes have a strong laxative effect. It can also cause a burning sensation in the mouth and throat. If you are pregnant, you must not eat unripe pineapples at all. The ingredients could even cause a miscarriage. If the worst comes to the worst, contact your gynecologist.

  • Even if an unripe pineapple doesn’t get any sweeter, it can still be soft, juicy, and therefore edible. To do this, keep the fruit in a warm place for about two days to achieve an appropriate result. Temperatures around 30 degrees are best for the fruit.
  • Also place the healthy pineapple upside down, i.e. on the leaves. If there is still some starch in the lower part of the fruit, it can find its way into the whole pulp.
  • However, you should not store an unripe pineapple in this way for longer than two days. After that, it not only becomes soft but spoils quickly.
  • If the pineapple is at least soft and juicy as a result of these measures, the taste experience is certainly missing due to the lack of sweetness. So our tip: cut the peeled pineapple into slices and lightly fry the fruit either in the oven or in a pan with a little sugar.
