Make crushed ice yourself – tips and tricks

To make crushed ice yourself, all you need is conventional ice cubes.

  1. Remove the ice cubes from the mold and pour them onto a kitchen towel.
  2. Bring the ends together to form an ice cube bag.
  3. It is best to use a hammer to crush the ice cubes. You can also use other harder objects such as rolling pins or meat tenderizers.
  4. Hold the ends of the kitchen towel and gently smack the bag. Make sure you choose a firm base and avoid slamming it too hard, otherwise the towel may tear.
  5. Tip: If you don’t have a hammer or similar handy, you can also crush the ice cubes by banging the bag on a stone floor outside.
  6. If you don’t like this method, you can use a blender to crush the ice cubes instead. Be careful though, as it will quickly chop the cubes too small.
