You need this for the lavender oil production
Just a few ingredients are enough to make lavender oil yourself. You probably already have most of it at home, so you can get started right away. What you need:
- a pot,
- a stove,
- a spoon,
- a tea towel,
- a heat-resistant mason jar,
- a heat-resistant bottle,
- a bit of water
- a funnel
- dried lavender flowers and
- Oil of any kind, e.g. almond oil. Note: The oil should be as odorless as possible.
Step by step: How to make your own lavender oil
- Fill a pot with water. Don’t overfill it, though, so the heat-resistant mason jar can still float in this water bath.
- Put the lavender flowers in dried form and any oil in the mason jar and place it in the water bath.
- Turn on the stove to low heat and slowly heat the mixture.
- However, make sure that the mixture does not start to boil. So stir it regularly. Heating takes about one to two hours.
- Check whether there is still enough water for the water bath. If not, add enough water.
- If the lavender oil has been able to soak through really well, you can remove it from the stove. Now pour it into the bottles.
- Use a tea towel and a funnel for this. Insert the funnel into the bottle and place the tea towel over it. Now fill the bottle up.
Homemade lavender oil – tips and tricks
- It is important that you always use dried lavender flowers. If you haven’t already done so, you should dry them beforehand or buy ready-made lavender flowers that are already dried. This is the only way to properly extract the essential oils.
- Make sure you have the right ratio between oil and flowers. In terms of volume, you should use just over twice as much oil as a flower. For example, 40 grams of lavender blossoms are recommended for around one liter of oil.
