  • 25 g Lavender flowers
  • 250 ml Vegetable oil, such as olive oil
  • Tea towel or colander
  • Screw-top jar

If you want to proceed quickly, the water bath method is suitable for you. You can then use the lavender oil as a herbal remedy for anxiety and stress. And this is how you do it:

  1. First, crush the lavender flowers in a mortar. If you don’t have a mortar to hand, it’s best to pound the flowers in your hands. Then put the lavender flowers in a screw-top jar.
  2. Add enough vegetable oil to completely cover the lavender flowers. Do not use sunflower oil, otherwise the oil will not last long. Better to use olive oil instead.
  3. Heat water in a water bath. Make sure the water is neither hotter nor colder than 40 degrees. Place the glass in the water bath. The vessel should be completely covered by the water. Let the flowers steep for four to five hours.
  4. Then remove the glass from the water bath. Filter the lavender oil through a tea towel. Collect the oil and place in a dark glass bottle. This oil has a shelf life of several weeks.

Make lavender oil using the cold method

If you have a little more time, use the cold method. The oil has a shelf life of up to two years.

  1. Crush the lavender flowers in a mortar or in your hands. Put the flowers in a screw-top jar. Add vegetable oil, such as olive oil, to the jar. Make sure all the flowers are covered with the oil.
  2. Place the jar in a sunny, warm place. Gently shake the jar regularly to distribute the contents. Leave the lavender flowers for a month.
  3. Then filter the flowers. Use a clean tea towel for this. Collect the oil in a brown glass bottle.
  4. Store the oil in a cool, dark place.
