You can make a mustard sauce yourself in no time at all. You only need a few ingredients for the basic recipe, but you can of course add herbs or spices if you like. We will also tell you which dishes and foods go well with mustard sauces.
Make your own mustard sauce: You need these ingredients
Classic dishes with mustard are, for example, eggs in mustard sauce, salmon with vegetables and mustard sauce, or potato or asparagus pans with mustard. The recipe goes with each of these dishes and is enough for four small or two larger portions:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 200 ml vegetable broth or milk
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1 tbsp medium hot mustard
- 1/2 tablespoon grain mustard
- Salt pepper
Preparation of the mustard sauce
Mustard goes particularly well with fish and meat, but also adds a spicy note to salad or vegetable sauces. You can prepare the sauce yourself in just a few minutes:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour while stirring, and sauté over medium-high heat for about a minute. Keep stirring.
- Add vegetable broth or milk and the cream and let the mixture simmer gently for about 10 minutes. Keep stirring constantly.
- Finally, stir the mustard into the sauce and season with salt and pepper if necessary. Once the mustard is in the sauce, it should no longer simmer.
