Make stick bread yourself: Recipe for about 10 stick bread

The following recipe is enough for about 10 sticks of bread. If desired, you can add spices such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, or fresh chives to the dough. Bacon cubes and chili are also well received.

  • 400 grams of flour
  • 300 milliliters of milk
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • A bit of salt

Instructions: Make stick bread yourself

  1. Place the flour in a suitable bowl and add up to 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Warm the milk so it is lukewarm. Dry yeast and sugar are now added.
  3. Stir the mixture until everything is dissolved. Now add the mixture to the flour with the oil.
  4. Knead the dough well and let it rise in a warm place for at least 15 minutes.

Prepare stick bread over the fire

  • For the bread on a stick, you need a stick or branch that is as clean as possible. If the end of the branch is dirty or damp, simply attach the stick bread a little lower.
  • You can divide the stick bread into small portions and roll them into a snake in your hands. This is then placed in a spiral around the branch. Of course, other variations are also possible here.
  • The stick bread succeeds both over embers and over an open fire. Be careful not to let the bread come into direct contact with fire or ashes. If the stick bread is well browned on the outside, it’s ready.
