To prepare yeast melt, you need the simplest of ingredients.

  • For four to six portions of yeast melt, take four tablespoons of vegetable margarine, six teaspoons of flour, 250 milliliters of water, eight teaspoons of yeast flakes, some mustard, pepper, and salt.
  • First, melt the vegetable margarine in a saucepan. Then add the flour and mix well until you have a smooth, lump-free mixture.
  • Now add water and nutritional yeast and mix well again.
  • At the end taste the mixture with mustard, salt, and pepper. Warm up the yeast melt again briefly, then it is ready.
  • If the yeast melt is too thick or too thin, you can vary the consistency with more water or yeast flakes.
  • You can use yeast lard as a cheese substitute for vegan pizza or casseroles or as a spread. It is also a good idea to mix them with crushed cashew nuts and make a kind of vegan parmesan. The yeast lard is also great in pasta dishes or as a binding agent for sauces.

  • Yeast flakes contain numerous vitamins such as B1, B2, and B6. They also contain pantothenic and folic acid.
  • Yeast flakes contain so much vitamin B1 that 15 grams of them alone cover the human daily requirement of this vitamin. You also have minerals and proteins.
  • The yeast flakes are made from yeast, which is cultivated on a grain nutrient medium. Flour and sea salt are then added to the resulting yeast cream. After the mixture has dried, it is rolled and ground into yeast flakes.
