Make yeast yourself – instructions
To make your own yeast, ferment water. The yeast water is prepared quickly and you are also doing something good for your intestinal flora with this DIY process. Beneficial bacteria are supported and constipation is prevented.
- To make yeast yourself, you need 2 dates, 50 grams of sugar, and 1 liter of water. You also need a sealable glass bottle with a capacity of at least 1 liter.
- After sterilizing the bottle, add all the ingredients and seal the jar.
- Then shake everything well.
- Now leave the bottle at room temperature for 8 days.
- To avoid mold growth, gently open the cap twice a day during fermentation. This allows the gases to escape. After sealing, always shake the contents of the bottle well.
- After 8 days, put the bottle in the fridge. The yeast water can be stored there for up to 3 months.
How to use the fermented water
The application is very simple. Nevertheless, you have to plan more time for the planned baked goods.
- Use yeast water instead of fresh yeast or dry yeast.
- Simply replace the liquid in the recipe with the water.
- After preparing the dough, leave it covered overnight.
- Then the next day it can go in the oven.
Making yeast from a wheat beer
Yeast can not only be made from certain types of fruit, but also from a wheat beer. This is particularly easy to do.
- To make yeast from wheat beer you need the following ingredients: 100ml wheat beer, a teaspoon of sugar and a tablespoon of wheat or spelled flour (type 405), and a screw-top jar.
- Make sure the beer is at room temperature. The glass should be boiled beforehand so that no germs can form.
- Put all the ingredients in the jar. After you have sealed it well, you should shake everything well.
- Shake until the flour and sugar have dissolved. Leave the jar in a warm place for 15 hours or overnight.
- Replace the liquid specified in the recipe, such as water or milk, with the yeast water in a 1:1 ratio.
How to multiply the yeast
If you only have a small piece of yeast left in the fridge, then you don’t necessarily need to buy fresh yeast. Because yeast can also be easily multiplied at home.
- To multiply yeast yourself, you need the following ingredients: half a cube of yeast, 100g of spelled or wheat flour, 100ml water, and 15g of sugar.
- First, put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix the ingredients together.
- It is best to cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and set it in a warm place for about two hours.
- The homemade yeast can be frozen in portions.
- You can also store the freshly made yeast in the fridge for a few days.
