- Coarse salt.
- A jar that can be closed well, or a salt shaker for storage.
Make herbal salt yourself: dry and grind herbs
In order to combine the herbs and salt into a tasty condiment, you need to do some preparation. Follow the step-by-step guide:
- Select the herbs from which you want to make a herbal salt later.
- Hang the herbs by a thread in a dark, well-ventilated, and dry room, or lay them out on a board to dry.
- Important: The herbs must not be dried in the sun, otherwise they will lose their taste.
- If you’re in a hurry, lay out the herbs on a tray and put them in the oven at 40 degrees until all the moisture is removed from the leaves.
- Crush the dried herbs with a mortar.
Mix herbal salt – basic recipe
- Mix together 5 grams each of basil, thyme, parsley, and chives with 3 grams each of sage and oregano. Now add about 80 grams of salt. If you need more herbal salt, convert the proportions to the desired quantity.
- Determine the amount of an herb to add to your custom blend based on how flavorful it is. Lavender, for example, is very dominant. Therefore, add only two grams of lavender to the mixture for every 5 grams of basil.
- Your homemade herb salt is ideal for seasoning salads, pizza, pasta, vegetables, and soups.
