Marinate tofu: many variations

Depending on your taste, you can marinate tofu in different ways.

  • It is best to use firm tofu, such as smoked tofu or natural tofu. These are best for cooking on the grill or in the oven.
  • Silken tofu is less suitable in this case, as it is almost creamy and would fall apart when marinated. You should also not choose seasoned tofu, because you want to marinate it yourself.
  • Freeze the tofu beforehand and let it thaw again. This changes its structure and the marinade can penetrate better.
  • You can also poke holes in it with a fork. This is the best way to marinate the tofu, as the marinade can penetrate the inside.
  • So that the spices also end up in the tofu, let the soy product marinate for at least two hours.
  • For a hearty marinade, use the following ingredients, for example, a tablespoon of lemon juice, a finely chopped onion, some basil, pepper, rosemary, salt, and five tablespoons of olive oil.
  • To do this, first cut the tofu into cubes or strips. This is important so that it marinates quickly and well. In the block, you need twice as much time to marinate the tofu.
  • Mix all the ingredients in a separate bowl and then add them to the tofu cubes.
  • Place the tofu cubes in a sealable bowl.
  • Then leave them in the fridge.

This is how you succeed in making a spicy tofu marinade

For a spicy tofu marinade you need the following ingredients:

  • pepper and salt
  • five tablespoons of soy sauce and one tablespoon of sesame oil
  • a pressed clove of garlic and a small diced chili pepper
  • some finely chopped fresh coriander
  • Preparation: Mix all ingredients in a separate bowl.
  • Add the mixture to the tofu cubes. Mix well.
  • Place the tofu cubes in the refrigerator for at least two hours.

Tofu marinade with coconut milk

You can make an exotic tofu marinade with coconut milk. For this you need the following ingredients:

  • two crushed garlic cloves
  • 60 grams of ginger
  • juice of one lime and 400 ml of coconut milk
  • Half a teaspoon of salt and three teaspoons of brown sugar
  • Preparation: Mix all the ingredients together well and pour them over the tofu.
  • Then you should mix everything well.
  • The tofu cubes go in the fridge for two hours. Then you can process them further.
