Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 8 herring fillets
- 250 ml milk
- 125 ml cream
- 1 class jar of mayonnaise, or Miracel Whip
- 2 cups of natural yogurt
- 2 small onions
- 2 small apples
- some allspice, ground
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 12 hours; Total time approx. 12 hours 15 minutes
Soak the herring fillets in milk overnight. This is very important because it draws out the salt! The longer they sit in the milk, the better. Mix the cream with the mayonnaise (or Miracle Whip) and the yogurt. Season with allspice to taste. Peel the onions, peel and core the apples, and dice both. If you like, puree the onions (I always do this because I don’t like biting into pieces of onion). Stir both ingredients into the sauce. Cut the herring herring into bite-sized pieces and add them to the sauce. Serve with boiled potatoes or simply fresh white bread with butter.
