traditional Polish Easter cake, with lots of caramel

Mix all the ingredients for the base into a dough and then shape it into a ball. Let it rest in the refrigerator for one hour. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 0.5 cm, set aside a portion for the edge and place it in a rectangular dish lined with baking paper. Shape the remaining dough into a pretty pattern and decorate the edge with it. Prick the base of the dough several times with a fork. Then bake for about 30 minutes at 200°C (top/bottom heat). Spread the caramel mixture over the cake. Decorate with almonds, raisins, plums, and candied orange peel.
