Meatballs with cheese filling in a spicy sauce

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 kg minced meat
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 6 tsp sweet paprika powder
  • 6 tsp paprika powder, hot
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 eggs
  • 10 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 4 garlic cloves, diced, possibly also a chili pepper
  • 8 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp crème fraîche
  • ¼ liter red wine
  • ¾ liter beef broth
  • 1 pkt. cheese, diced
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Mix the minced meat with 1 onion, 3 cloves of garlic, 3 teaspoons each of sweet and hot paprika powder, 2 eggs, 5 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 2 tablespoons of ketchup to form a dough and season with salt and pepper. Let it rest for about 10 minutes, then form balls and enclose a piece of cheese in the center of each one. Then fry briefly in butter until browned all over and set aside. Fry 1 onion and 1 clove of garlic in the hot butter, deglaze with the red wine, add the stock and 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, add the finely chopped bell pepper to the sauce, mix in 3 tablespoons each of sweet and hot paprika powder and the crème fraîche. Bring the sauce to a boil briefly. Then add the meatballs and place everything in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius (convection oven). Serve with potatoes and rice. The bell peppers can also be fried.
