spicy, slightly hot side dish to meat, fish, patties, potato pancakes and other dishes

If you can’t find jostaberries, you can also use 250g currants and 250g gooseberries. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, mix well, and bring to a boil slowly, stirring constantly. Then simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the onion pieces are translucent and the mixture has turned a dark red color, the chutney is ready to be filled into screw-top jars. Makes approximately 6 jars (350ml each).
