Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 rolls (stale)
  • 8 eggs
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

…a very old recipe from my grandmother in Thuringia

Cut or break the rolls into small pieces and knead well with the beaten eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt. Place everything in a bowl and weigh it down with a plate. Let it rest for a few hours. Shape the bread mixture into a ball, place it in a clean cloth, and tie it tightly. Place this ball in a large pot of boiling water, suspended by a wooden spoon. Simmer over low heat for 45 minutes. Remove the finished ball from the cloth and place it on a plate. Cut it like a cake. It tastes excellent with roast meat.
