Even if the temptation is great: Under no circumstances should you tip it down the drain or the toilet, warns the NRW consumer advice center. Because that has serious consequences.

Because the temperatures in the sewage system are relatively low, the fat hardens quickly there. This can lead to blockages in the area of property drainage or the public sewage system.

Fondue fat belongs in the household waste

Because the incorrectly disposed of fat combines with other foreign substances such as hair or wet wipes to form so-called knots. They can only be removed with special high-pressure cleaners or milling machines. In the worst case, the pipe may even have to be replaced. Service providers who fix such problems are usually not available at short notice.

The VZNRW advises proceeding as follows:

Wipe small amounts of grease out of pots or pans with paper towels or newspaper and throw them away with the household waste.
Fill larger quantities into a screw-on jar and, tightly closed, also throw it away with the household waste.
