Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 1 Chinese cabbage
  • 700 g minced meat (lamb or beef)
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 6 slice(s) cheese (Emmental, Cheddar, cave cheese etc., large slices), spicy, thickly sliced
  • 6 slice(s) ham, thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp thyme, fresh
  • 1 pinch of caraway, ground
  • Salt
  • pepper, black
  • Pepper, white

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

refined with cheese and ham

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wash and finely dice the tomatoes. Mix the minced meat with thyme, black pepper, and salt, and sear in a non-stick pan. Set the fried minced meat aside in a bowl, leaving any rendered fat in the pan. Quarter the Chinese cabbage lengthwise and trim off the tough white core. Cut the tender, light-green leaves into thin strips and set aside. Cut the white stems into strips and sear them in the pan in the fat from the minced meat. Sprinkle with caraway seeds, salt, and white pepper and braise briefly. Add the strips of light-green leaves and braise for about 1/2 minute. Now layer the mixture into 3 small casserole dishes as follows: a thin layer of cabbage, diced tomatoes, a thin layer of minced meat, a slice of ham, and a slice of cheese. Layer the mixture twice per dish. Bake in a hot oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the cheese has a nice golden brown color. Serve immediately.
