Open a can with a spoon – in four easy steps

You can use this trick to open any tin can. Just be aware that smaller cans are more difficult to open than large cans. That’s how it works:

  1. Grasp the spoon as far down as possible and start at the very edge of the can.
  2. Hold the can with your other hand and rub the tip of the spoon over the area with a lot of pressure until a hole appears after a short while.
  3. In this way you make several holes in the edge of the can and finally press through the last connecting pieces until the lid is only hanging on the can at one point.
  4. Then move the spoon under the lid and carefully flip it up.

Do not work with your fingers as you can easily cut yourself on the sharp edges.

  • It is often enough to open the can only halfway, as the lid can already be folded down.
  • Do not try to force the lid off completely if it is still firmly attached to the can. Oftentimes, using too much force will result in you injuring yourself or spilling the contents of the can.
  • Find a solid surface and use a spoon that is not too thin.
